Advocacy

Our primary mission is giving a single voice to our membership at the state legislature and state regulatory agencies. We advocate passionately and endlessly to ensure that your ability to operate your business, employ people, and make a profit isn’t hindered by burdensome regulations. Specifically, the HBALC leadership works to defeat legislation that is hostile to our industry. But we also advocate for legislation that helps our industry thrive and become a much stronger contributor to the Lowcountry's economy.

INDUSTRY ISSUES

The HBA of the Lowcountry is the premier voice of the residential construction industry in the Lowcountry. Our government relations team works year-round to advocate for legislative & regulatory programs and reforms that benefit the housing and building industry by working with the local and elected officials, multiple state agencies, as well as South Carolina's Congressional Delegation.

  • Land Development
  • Private Property Rights

Legislative

We monitor bills and legislative hearings that affect the building industry and work to amend or defeat measures that would adversely impact the industry. Legislation endorsed by HBALC has been passed, which has resulted in significant savings to the home building industry and in turn, to home buyers, across our region. Just as important, HBLAC has routinely defeated a long list of bills potentially harmful to the industry.

Regulatory

The HBALC government relations team works closely with elected state officials and regulatory agencies in the development and adoption of regulations, codes, and standards for housing with the goal of creating safe, quality, and common-sense construction standards.
